About
What I have always loved about antiques is the feeling that an object already had a life before you. Looking at a piece, I find myself wondering where it has been, who owned it, what room it once stood in and what it has seen along the way. The marks and signs of age are part of that story.
This fascination started when I was six. My parents began working with antiques, and I would spend time with them looking through houses and discovering old furniture, objects and things that had been part of someone else's life. Every now and then, I was allowed to bring something home for myself.
My childhood bedroom became a curious mix of toys and antique pieces; an old mirror, a porcelain bowl, little objects and for a while, a rather large collection of porcelain cats.
As I grew older, so did my taste. The small objects gradually became a chest of drawers, rugs, frames, tableware, jewellery and other pieces that I could imagine living with.
Apartment No.10 grew from this lifelong appreciation of objects with a past. The collection brings together antique and vintage furniture, lighting and decorative pieces that have their own character, history and sense of place.
I love the way older pieces can change the feeling of a space. An antique mirror in a new-build room, an old rug beneath contemporary furniture, or a vintage table surrounded by modern pieces can bring personality and character to a home. There is something special about bringing together pieces from different times and allowing them to become part of a new story.
For me, that is the appeal of collecting and living with antiques: finding beauty in things that have already lived a life, and giving them a place in yours.
